Hindu calendar actually based on the waxing and the waning phase of the moon. During the waxing phase, the moon’s light part increases and on the completion of fifteen days it attained the full moon. In the waning phase, moon’s lighted part shrinks and on completion of fifteen days attains New Moon. In both phases, the eleventh day is called Ekadashi. However, each Ekadashi is known by different names.
Generally, Ekadashi falls twice in the month. In a year, there are 24 Ekadashi. When any year falls in the category of Adimas it has 26 Ekadashi. Year 2015 comes in the catagery of Adimas and thus has 26 Ekadashi.
