The country named as “India” is a secular province where you can see multiple religions, castes, communities and rituals. One such a community is included as Maheshwari Group. As we know that each community has its own customs and rituals for particular festival and the Maheswari community also has its rituals to celebrate ‘Mahesh Navami’. The festival Mahesh Navami is also known by the name of ‘Maheshwari Jayanti’. The community is most popular in the Northern region of India and celebrate Hindu festival Maheshwari Jayanti each year with great zeal. This community is not a big group, but it is spread across the country India.

Mahesh Navami or Mahesh Jayanti is celebrated on the Ninth day (Navami) of Shukla Paksha in the month of June which is Jyeshtha Month according to Hindu calendar. In 2016, this festival will be celebrated on 13th June (Monday). The festival is dedicated to Hindu God Shiva. Lord Shiva is popularly known by various names and Mahesh is one of them. The name 'Mahesh' is a mark of ultimate devotion towards Lord Shiva because it is believed that on the same day he came forth in front of his devotees for the first time.

There was a king named Khandelsen, who did not have any child. That’s why he worshiped Lord Shiva with great devotion and dedication. Being happy with his prayer, Lord Shiva fulfilled his wish by blessing him with a son. The name of his son was Sujansen, who later became the king of his kingdom.

Mahesh Jayanti Celebration


Predominantly, it is the festival of Hindus and is observed in many parts of the country mainly in Rajasthan. All the devotees worship the Lord Mahesh and Goddess Parvati on this festival day. The temples are decorated with flowers and the prayer is accomplished very peacefully. The newly wedded couples are specially asked to pray the Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati on this day because they enter into a new phase of their life with happiness and goodwill.
