Anjana devi

According to  one of important Hindu epic Ramayana, Ahalya was the sage Gautama’s wife. Ahalya was famous for her beauty all over the worlds. Once  the Sun God was charmed by the beauty of Ahalya. He disguised himself as sage Gautama and made love to Ahalya and gave birth to Bali. Later, Indra was also  mesmerized by Ahalya, and he also disguised as Gautama and made love to Ahalya gave birth to Sugreeva. All three children Bali, Sugreeva and Ananya, were living peacefully.

One bright sunny day, Gautama took his family and visited River Thunga-Bhadra. He was carrying Bali and Sugreeva on his shoulder, and his wife, Ahalya and daughter Anjana Devi, were following him. The sand on the banks of the river was hot from the sun and burnt the feet of little Anjana’s feet. Unable to bear the heat, she suddenly yelled at her father that it was not fair that he was taking care of his stepsons but, he was not taking care of his own daughter.

Anjana Devi’s revelation shocked and enraged the Gautama. He threw both his sons into the waters of the river. He requested river that If those boys were his sons than return them as they were otherwise turned them into monkeys and get washed away into the river. The two brothers were washed ashore & turned into monkeys. They grew up to be the rulers of the monkeys in the forests on the banks of the river.

Ahalya felt sad as she lost her two sons because of her daughter Anjana. She cursed her daughter as her mother's sons turned into a monkey, her son would also be turned into the monkey.

Gautama cursed his wife Ahalya to turn into stone as she cheated him. Ahalya fell at her husband’s feet and asked for forgiveness and later  pleaded for  her innocence... Read More
