Jakhu Temple

Jakhu Temple is dedicated to Lord Hanuman.  This beautiful temple is located on the top of the famous Jakhu hill of Shimla at a height of 2455 meters.

There is around  2 kilometers from the ridge and an uphill climb through the beautiful Deodar trees is simply unforgettable. The awesome scenic view that surrounds this beautiful temple is absolutely wonderful and marvelous.

This temple is very easily approachable and is one of the most sought temples to be visited by thousands of pilgrims, devotees and visitors around all over the year.

Legend associated to Jakhu Temple

During Treta Yuga (second out of four Yugas or ages of mankind), there was a noble king known as Dashratha, who ruled over Ayodhya. He had three wives, but no children. After performing an elaborate Yagna to please Gods, he was blessed with four sons. The eldest one was called Rama, and other three were Lakshmana Bharata and Shatrughna. With all four boys were grown up into beautiful, mature, and educated prince.

One day Dashratha thought that he was aging, and it was the right to crown Rama, as he was the rightful heir to the throne.   He declared to all three queens and everything was set for crowning Rama.

At that moment only, his step-mother, Dasharatha’s third wife, Kaikeyi called his husband and reminded him of two promises.  She said that according to those promises, she wants her son, Bharata, to become king and sent Rama to Exile for fourteen years in the forests.

Rama along his wife Sita and Laxmana went to the forest.  One day, a demoness shruplakha,the  sister of Ravana saw Rama and was mesmerized by his charming personality. She tried to seduce him, but he ignored her completely. She then attempted to seduce Lakshmana, but, he became angry, and he smashed her nose. Shruplakha felt insulted, she went to her brother Ravana, the Demon King of Lanka and complained about the behavior of Rama and Lakshmana.

Ravana sought revenge by abducting Sita and kept her in his palace. When Rama and Lakshmana were unable to find her, they were engraved with sorrow.  They were eagerly searching for her then they met a group of monkeys who helped them to get Sita back from Lanka.

There was the furious battle between Rama Army and Ravana Army at Lanka.

During the fight, Lakshmana was injured by an arrow from Meghnad and turned senseless. In order to save his life, Hanuman moved towards Himalaya to get sanjeewani herb, and there he saw the Yaaku sage on Jakhu Mountain in severe penance... Read More
